Breathedge 2 Materials: Where to Find Every Resource
Every confirmed Breathedge 2 material and where to find it: aluminum, titanium, wires, plastic, ice, foam, tape, with the verb each one needs.
FAQ
Do materials respawn in Breathedge 2?
Why do I find no aluminum even though I am mining everything?
Which materials gate Chapter 1 the hardest?
Materials are where Breathedge 2 stops holding your hand. The game gives you a name and a number — “10 Aluminum”, “15 Titanium” — and nothing else. It does not say which tool that ore wants, which scavenging verb applies, or that the plastic you need is on an object you already looted twice for wires. This hub lists every material confirmed on the Early Access launch build and what you have to do to get it.
How does scavenging work in Breathedge 2?
Five verbs drive the whole looting layer: Break, Cut, Unscrew, Pull, Drill. Every resource is attached to an object that answers exactly one of them, and using the wrong verb on the right object is the single most common reason players report “I have been mining for an hour and got nothing”.
There is no better pickaxe to buy. Official design notes describe basic tools as prototyped straight from raw materials — the crowbar is the developers’ own example — with a free starter toolbox and a personal garage for every player, and progression coming from DIY modules instead. Base tools are described as intact and eternal, but the modules installed in them wear out, giving back part of their raw materials. Efficiency comes from matching the verb to the object.
| Verb | What it is for | Confirmed materials that want it |
|---|---|---|
| Break | Smash thin panels, containers, brittle casings | Metal from debris and barrels |
| Cut | Slice soft linings, taped and rubbered surfaces | Foam, Rubber, Electrical Tape, Plastic |
| Unscrew | Undo fastened fittings and lamp holders | Light Bulbs |
| Pull | Yank, pry, lever loose objects | Titanium from floating chunks, Ice |
| Drill | Mine hard ore that exists on asteroids | Aluminum, other drillable ore |
What materials exist in Breathedge 2?
These names are confirmed on the launch build, cross-checked between a full Chapter 1 playthrough and player reports in the Steam review area. Pre-release demo-era names (Fabric Scraps, Titanium Fragment, Circuit Boards, Advanced Alloys) are not on this list: the developers said the 2025 demo was thrown out and rebuilt from scratch, so any recipe table based on it is unverified.
| Material | Where it comes from | How you get it |
|---|---|---|
| Metal | Orange wreckage in space, barrels you pry open | Break / Pull |
| Refined Metal | Crafted from 4 Metal; also pulled from deep industrial equipment and containers | Craft |
| Aluminum | Drillable ore on asteroids | Drill |
| Titanium | Spiked-ball ore nodes; floating titanium chunks in space | Drill / Pull |
| Wires | Electrical boxes, extracted with a probe | Probe (see page) |
| Plastic | The black block at the end of a wire run; early station equipment and broken fittings | Cut / Break |
| Electronics | Household appliances such as a washing machine, and electronic debris | Disassemble |
| Electrical Tape | Tape wrapped around pipes | Cut |
| Rubber | Dark industrial rubber pads and panels | Cut |
| Light Bulbs | Lamp fixtures | Unscrew |
| Foam | Yellow insulation layer on station structures | Cut |
| Cardboard | Available early while scavenging around the station | Pick up |
| Ice | Floating ice chunks | Pull |
| Water | Processed from Ice | Craft |
| Alkaline solution | The holes left after the alkali creature attacks (community label), drawn out with a probe | Probe |
| Oxyworm | Harvested from oxygen worms; nests also restore oxygen directly | Harvest |
Notice how few of these are mining nodes — most are a piece of a machine, which is why one room hands out four materials once you know which part of it you want. Two rows (Wires, alkaline solution) use a probe rather than one of the five verbs above; that extraction is a player-reported interaction and sits alongside the verb list, not inside it.
Where do you find each bottleneck material?
Three materials stop more Chapter 1 runs than everything else combined. Each has its own page with quantities and tool prerequisites.
| Bottleneck | Source | Why it stalls runs |
|---|---|---|
| Aluminum | Drillable ore on asteroids | Drill-only. The toilet repair chore wants 10+ units and no other object drops it |
| Titanium | Spiked-ball ore nodes + loose space chunks you pry off | Two sources that look nothing alike; the same chain wants 15 units and the Backpack 4 more |
| Wires | Electrical boxes, extracted with a probe | Smash the box and you get the plastic housing, not the wire — so the count never moves |
What should you craft first with your materials?
Every figure below is a measured Early Access number from a single Chapter 1 playthrough, not an official table:
| Craft | Cost | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| First tool (crowbar-type prototype) | 2 Metal | Opens containers and panels; cost is player-reported, needs a second source |
| Backpack | 4 Titanium | Carry 110 → 185, a 75-unit jump — the best detour in Chapter 1 |
| Purified Oxygen | 2 Oxyworm + 1 Metal + 1 Ice | Restores 120 oxygen, against an early suit capacity of 600 |
| Public Oxygen Station repair | 3 Metal + 2 Electronics + 1 Wire + 3 Electrical Tape | Turns a fixed Outskirts structure into a refill point outside the train |
Three of those four crafts consume materials from this page, and the oxygen station punishes you hardest: it needs Electronics and Electrical Tape, the two materials players most often call impossible to find. For what those numbers unlock, see the Chapter 1 walkthrough and the cold protection checklist, where Foam and Cardboard gate the frozen DEPOT instead of any metal.
Why does the game feel material-starved in the first hours?
Two structural reasons. First, recognition, not supply. The launch build removed hand-holding markers from unlock objects — the developers’ description of the redesign is that you observe the environment and find things yourself — so the common complaints are “I cannot find tape” and “I do not know what plastic looks like” rather than “there is not enough”. One reviewer who finished the demo for achievements still called hunting Electrical Tape a struggle; another was hard-stuck on Plastic because the Plastic Node looks like nothing they had a name for.
Second, carry weight is the hidden cap at 110, which makes the Backpack the highest-leverage craft in the chapter.
Which materials are still unverified?
Worth naming the gaps, because other sites fill them with demo-era guesses:
- Glass, lead, fabric, resin — first-game material names, not confirmed for the sequel.
- Full recipe tree — armor, weapons and tool upgrades beyond the four crafts above. No structured list existed within the first 48 hours of Early Access.
- Blueprint unlock mechanic — officially you learn new blueprints by exploring; whether the first game’s Scanner is still the tool for it is unconfirmed, so this page claims no scan mechanic. See the blueprint locations hub.
- Respawn timers — not measured for anything.
- The 2 Metal first-tool cost — a single player’s figure pending a second source.
For routes rather than materials, the map and all locations index lists where each area sits, and the beginner guide covers the first half hour, before any of this matters.
Last verified 2026-09-01 against the Early Access build released 2026-08-31. Quantities are community measurements from a single playthrough, not official values, and may change with patches. This page is reviewed as updates land — it is not auto-updated.
