Breathedge 2 Wires: How to Get Them from Electrical Boxes
Wires in Breathedge 2 come from electrical boxes you probe, not from smashing them. The extraction method, why the box gives plastic instead, and the uses.

Why do I get plastic instead of wires from the box?
Do wires respawn in Breathedge 2?
How many wires do I need in Chapter 1?
Wires are the best example of how Breathedge 2 wants you to loot. The material is not rare, the object holding it is not hidden, and players still report wire counts of zero after an hour of searching — because the obvious interaction gives you a completely different material out of the same box.
Here is the confirmed method, what the box actually contains, and where the one wire you find gets spent.
Where do you find wires in Breathedge 2?
Electrical boxes — the distribution-panel fixtures mounted on station and Outskirts structures. Cross-checked between a full Chapter 1 playthrough and player reports, this is the wire source, and it is the only one confirmed on the Early Access launch build. Wires appear on the verified material name list next to Metal, Refined Metal, Plastic, Rubber, Aluminum, Titanium, Ice, Electronics, Electrical Tape, Light Bulbs, Foam and Cardboard.
They are a fixture material, which has two consequences people get wrong:
- You will not mine them. This is not asteroid ore like Aluminum, and not loose debris like the prised chunks of Titanium. It belongs to the built environment, in the same category as the tape wrapped around pipes or the insulation layer on a wall.
- Empty is empty. Fixed building parts have not been observed respawning on a timer, and no systematic respawn test exists for the launch build. When you find a corridor with a row of boxes, treat it as a one-time haul.
How do you get wires out of an electrical box?
You probe it. The extraction is a fine, patient interaction aimed at the wires inside the housing — not a strike on the box itself. Attack the box and the housing comes apart, and what you collect off the broken wire run is its black plastic end block: Plastic, a real and useful material, and absolutely not what you were farming.
That pairing is worth internalising beyond this page, because it is the template for the whole looting layer. Scavenging runs on five verbs — Break, Cut, Unscrew, Pull, Drill — each object answers exactly one of them, and the same panel frequently carries two or three materials on different parts of itself. An appliance gives Electronics when you open it and nothing when you hit it. A pipe gives Electrical Tape when you cut the wrapping and nothing when you smash the pipe. The full mapping is in the materials where to find hub.
If your controls label the interaction differently in your language or input setup, look for the non-destructive, sustained option on the object rather than the strike — that is the probing family.
What are wires used for?
The one confirmed Chapter 1 sink is small but structurally important:
| Craft | Full recipe | What it unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Public Oxygen Station repair | 3 Metal, 2 Electronics, 1 Wire, 3 Electrical Tape | A refill point outside the train, in the Outskirts |
One wire. The reason this page exists at all is that the ingredient list reads as four easy items and then stalls a run completely, because Electronics, Electrical Tape and Wires are all three hidden behind non-obvious interactions: appliances for electronics, cutting tape off pipes, probing rather than smashing for wires. The recipe numbers themselves come from a single player’s measurement on the launch build and still need a second source, so re-check them against your own objective screen.
For the rest of the verified crafting side, including Purified Oxygen at 2 Oxyworm + 1 Metal + 1 Ice restoring 120 oxygen, see all confirmed Breathedge 2 recipes. Anything beyond those confirmed uses is not documented for the Early Access build yet — no wire-cost list for armor, tools or workstations exists, and the pre-release demo’s item names should not be used to fill that space, since the developers said the demo was rebuilt from scratch.
Why can you not camp electrical boxes for wires?
Because the box is architecture, and nothing has shown architecture to regenerate here. Compare the three early materials by source type and the design logic becomes obvious:
| Material | Source type | Repeatable? |
|---|---|---|
| Aluminum | Asteroid ore node | Unverified, but node-shaped |
| Titanium | Space debris chunks + ore nodes | Debris is plentiful and passed daily |
| Wires | Fixed electrical box | No evidence of respawn |
Practical conclusion: do not proactively farm wires. Take one or two when you pass a box, and reserve your carry space for the materials whose quests genuinely demand twenties. The 110 starting carry weight is the real constraint on every trip, and the 4 Titanium Backpack that raises it to 185 is a better use of a slot than three spare wires.
What should you do if you cannot find any?
Work down this list, in order. It is built from the failure modes players actually report.
- Stop looking on asteroids. Wires are indoors. If you are scanning ore nodes for copper, you are in the wrong environment entirely.
- Look at walls and structural fixtures, not containers. Boxes, panels and pipe runs are the looting targets. Chests and crates are a different table.
- Change the verb before you change the room. If an interaction returns nothing, the object is not empty — it is answering a different verb. Probing is the wire answer; smashing is the plastic answer.
- Re-read what you collected. If your Plastic count went up while Wires stayed flat, you were standing in the right place with the wrong action.
- Check whether your objective actually needs them yet. The confirmed need is one wire for the oxygen station. If you are hunting wires for some other reason, that reason is probably a demo-era recipe list that no longer applies.
Once you have the wire, the station repair is the moment Chapter 1 stops treating oxygen as a crisis. The full refill picture — the Public Oxygen Station, Oxyworm nests that return oxygen directly, and the ice-fed terminals — is in the oxygen locations guide, and the surrounding route sits in the Chapter 1 walkthrough.
